North Cascades Ruggedness pictures

NEW---KML files

I have created some KML files that show the most rugged regions within the North Cascades (on a smaller scale than the maps shown below). If you load them into Google Earth in the order list below, you can see the core region (Shuksan/Pickets/Thunder Arm) grow to encompass more terrain.

The MATLAB-generated maps below now also have accompanying KML files.

Large version of North Cascades: area = 27300 km^2, rug = 135m.
Top left is Fraser River Valley; bottom is Snoqualmie Pass area. (Note that this is somewhat arbitrarily cut off on the north, west and east.)

Medium version of North Cascades: area = 20000 km^2, rug = 149m

Small version of North Cascades: area = 9100 km^2, rug = 172m.
Main part goes South to around Glacier Peak, Lake Chelan. Southern outlier is Mount Stuart area.
